Man shot by officer died of fall at Tampa airport, official says

10-29-2013 Florida:

A man who was shot by a Tampa International Airport police officer died from the impact of the fall after he jumped from the fourth-story of a parking garage Monday afternoon.

Allen Piano died from blunt impact from the fall, said Dick Bailey, a Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office spokesman.

Airport police Officer Jason Virt shot at Piano but hit him only once in the upper body. That wound was not lethal, Bailey said.

The investigation hasn’t revealed the manner of Piano’s death, whether it was an accident or suicide, Bailey said.

Piano, 47, of 3172 Cypress Green Drive, Palm Harbor, was on sex-offender probation and faced imminent arrest when he was confronted by Virt, authorities said Tuesday.

Piano was sentenced to sex-offender probation two months ago in St. Lucie County on a 2010 charge of providing obscene material to a minor. The probationary period was for 10 years, Florida Department of Corrections records show, and he is listed in the state’s sex-offender database.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Misty Cash said Piano violated his probation by moving without notifying his probation officer.

Family Identifies Sex Assault Suspect Shot & Killed by Officers

2-7-2014 Michigan:

A Kalamazoo man shot and killed by Public Safety Officers during an ongoing sexual assault investigation has been identified by his relatives.

FOX17′s Troy Campbell spoke with Wanda Coskey, who identified the deceased as 42-year-old Brad Allen Mason, her son. Online records with the Michigan Sex Offender Registry show Mason was a registered sex offender, with a past conviction for Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes in 2006.

His registered address is the same location where a deadly confrontation took place with Public Safety Officers Friday night. Police have not officially released the name of the deceased.

Officers were sent to his home in the 100 block of Dutton St. around 5:30 p.m., not far from Bronson Hospital, to follow up on a sexual assault that happened earlier in the week. Official details on what led investigators to his location have yet to be released.

In a press release earlier this week, detectives announced they were looking for a white male in his mid to late 30′s with dirty blonde or brown hair and a short beard connected to the abduction and sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman in the area of Fairview and University Streets in Kalamazoo early Wednesday morning. Investigators say the suspect grabbed the woman and forced her into a red truck and drove away from the area, sexually assaulted her, then released her near the area where she’d been abducted.
