Homeless Roanoke man dies after September assault

10-27-15 Virginia:

A homeless Roanoke man who was assaulted last month died Monday, police said.

Thomas Patrick Corriveau, 62, died at a hospital from complications of the Sept. 30 attack, and the medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide on Tuesday, Roanoke police spokesman Scott Leamon said.

About 1 p.m. Oct. 1, Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a report about an intoxicated person leaning over a railing at a business in the 300 block of Elm Avenue in southeast Roanoke, Leamon said. The man had injuries to his face and his side.

Responders took the man, who initially provided a false name, to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police said he was extremely intoxicated.

First degree murder charged in Essex County

An alleged domestic dispute has led to the shooting death of a convicted sexual predator and the imprisonment of the suspected gunman.

According to Essex County Sheriff Stanley S. Clarke, On July 25 at approximately 9:40 p.m. his department responded to a call advising of a shooting at 3749 Richmond Highway in the Paul's Crossroads area of the county.

After arriving at the scene, Essex authorities discovered Richard Earl Breedon, 46, dead of a gunshot wound. At that time, the suspect, identified as Justin Hodges, 29, the next door neighbor, had already fled the scene.

According to numerous reports by neighbors and sources close to the investigation, Hodges's ex-wife, whose identity was not disclosed, had recently left her husband and moved into Breedon's home. The Hodges' children reportedly shared time at both domiciles, which were only separated by a single wall.

Hodges allegedly became irate after discovering Breedon, a registered sexual offender who was convicted of forcible sodomy and rape in Jan., 2001, had become verbally abusive.

Police ID bodies found at Oceanfront hotel

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police have identified two homicide victims found at an Oceanfront hotel last week.

According to James Cason with the Virginia Beach Police Department, the bodies were discovered in a fifth-floor room Thursday by a housekeeping employee at the Comfort Inn in the 2300 block of Atlantic Avenue.

Monday, police identified the victims as 31-year-old Lenny McDannell, of New Castle, Delaware, and 32-year-old Joshua Zettles of Virginia Beach.

Before Zettles went down to the Oceanfront hotel, he spoke with his sister Jackie, who did not want her last name revealed.

"The last time I saw him was earlier [Thursday] afternoon," said Jackie. "We were making plans to get together the following day as a family."

Jackie said Zettles was going to the Oceanfront to see his friend, McDannell, who is a registered sex offender in Delaware.

Sex offender found shot dead in Hopewell home

5-6-2013 Virginia:

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - A violent sex offender sent to prison for abduction for immoral purposes and attempted rape was found murdered Friday, almost 18 years to the day of his conviction.

Police say a man shot Richard Miles Hawthorne, 41, once in the chest. Hawthorne was pronounced dead inside hit 915 Buren St. home.

Hawthorne was convicted in 1995, and listed as a violent offender. The case went before a judge in Prince George, and the age of his victim is not listed in the Virginia Sex Offender Database.

Detectives said they are pursuing strong leads, and do not believe the shooting was random. ..Source.. by Mike Valerio

Murdered man Hopewell’s first homicide of the year

Hopewell Police are investigating the first homicide of 2013 inside a home on Buren Street.

A man confronted an intruder and shots are fired, but police don’t think this is a random crime.

Buren Street in Hopewell. A place with tidy homes flying American flags and where neighbors watch out for each other.

But the quiet calm was shattered early Friday morning. An armed intruder breaks into 915 Buren just before 6 in the morning.

Richard Hawthorne, who lives in the home, confronts the person. Moments later gunshots ring out. The 41-year-old dies inside with his mother just feet away.

Neighbor Justin Parke says he heard gunfire just a few houses away.
