The man, identified only as a 47-year-old white male, entered the station located in the 8800 block of East Las Tunas Drive about 7:25 a.m. to register as a sex offender, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lt. Joe Mendoza said.

When the deputy went further inside the station and returned with other deputies in order to arrest him, the man ran toward his vehicle, the lieutenant said.

BYRON (CBS SF) — A man facing child molestation charges who was fatally shot by Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies Friday morning after a standoff in Byron has been identified as 49-year-old Michael Mallet, sheriff’s officials said.

The situation began when Mallet was served with an arrest warrant at 10:06 p.m. Thursday. He responded by arming himself with a handgun and barricading himself in a home in the 2700 block of Hoffman Lane, Capt. Dan Hoffman said.

Hoffman said the $1.15 million arrest warrant was served in connection to 12 counts of child molestation charged against Mallet Thursday by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

The impetus for these charges was a February investigation by the sheriff’s office, Hoffman said. A 13-year-old foster child reported that Mallet molested her for a period of time when she was 11 years old, Hoffman said.

M.E. Identifies Man Shot By Lynnwood Officer in Everett

12-17-16 Washington:

Just received the latest update from Shari Ireton on the shooting in Everett Saturday night. Investigators say there may not have been an actual physical struggle between the Lynnwood PD officer and the suspect on Grand street. Here is the release…

The investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Everett last Saturday night continues. Evidence gathered in the investigation showed that the 44 year-old suspect made multiple threats to the female victim via text and phone messages earlier that day.

The messages left by the suspect also indicated that he would kill police. Evidence gathered in the investigation does not show that the suspect was at the exact location where the victim was (the 17500 block of 54th Pl, Lynnwood) at the time those threats were made. Based on messages he sent to the victim, the suspect implied he was in the area, watching Lynnwood officers interact with the victim at her residence.

Autopsy conducted Monday on man killed by Bend police

12-27-16 Oregon:

Officials quiet about vehicle search and autopsy of man shot and killed during traffic stop

An autopsy on Michael Jacques, 31, who was shot and killed by Bend police during a Friday night traffic stop, was conducted Monday, as was a search of the vehicle Jacques had been driving. But details about the incident remain thin.

Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel said he was expecting the preliminary autopsy report from the state Medical Examiner’s Office as well as the results of the police search of Jacques’ 2002 Dodge Caravan on Monday, but he declined to comment on either.

“I’m not going to be releasing anything today,” he said Monday, adding that more information would probably be available in about a week, after witness interviews were complete and when he’s “confident that releasing information won’t impact the investigation.”

The identities of the officers, who are both on paid administrative leave, haven’t been released. During a news conference Saturday, Bend Police Chief Jim Porter said both officers are in good standing with the department and that one has 15 years’ experience and the other has seven years’ experience.

12-18-16 Tennessee:

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an inquiry after two Shelby County Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man who allegedly threatened them with a knife in the Arlington area late Saturday night, officials said Sunday.

According to the TBI, the incident began a little after 10 p.m. when the deputies responded to a call about a man “exhibiting some sort of violent behavior” at 9591 Osborn Road, TBI spokesman Susan Niland said in a press conference Sunday afternoon. Jimmy Lee Lawson, a convicted sex offender who had at least two prior domestic violence incidents this year, allegedly walked out on the driveway armed with a knife.

The deputies opened fire, killing Lawson, who would've turned 49 on Thursday. Two other adults were at the home, in addition to Lawson's wife, Janet, Niland said. Lawson and his wife have two adult daughters, Maegan and Mallori, although it's uncertain if they were the ones at the home Saturday night.

Neither the TBI nor the Shelby County Sheriff's Office will release the names of the deputies involved in the shooting.

Agents justified in fatal shooting of MN sex offender, prosecutor says

10-21-2016 Minnesota:

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — A man who was shot and killed by officers at an Alexandria home in August was within 4 feet of the officers while armed with a knife, a release from Douglas County Attorney Chad Larson said Friday, Oct. 21.

Larson concluded the shooting of Adam Jo Klimek, 31, of Carlos, by agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was a justifiable use of force done in self-defense.

“I have chosen not to present this case to a grand jury because the facts do not warrant it.” Larson said in his release.

“The two BCA agents involved, agents Elizabeth Eilers and Dustin Vanderhagen, were victims of a crime that day. … In my opinion, they should be commended for their service to the public in the face of lethal opposition.”

Alton Sterling Arrest Record, Criminal History & Rap Sheet

WikiPedia: Shooting of Alton Sterling
7-6-2016 Louisiana:

Alton Sterling was a 37-year-old black man who was shot to death in a confrontation outside a convenience store with police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana early on the morning of July 5.

His death has sparked outrage, protests, and an investigation by the U.S. Justice Department.

The officers’ handling of the confrontation has come under intense scrutiny from the public, and could lead to criminal charges. The debate over the officers’ conduct is likely to include discussion of Sterling’s criminal record and whether it is at all relevant when assessing the officers’ conduct.

The legal questions in the case will focus on what happened in the confrontation between Sterling and the officers right before he was shot. Sterling’s case file does provide a fuller biography of the man, however.

A review of court records by Heavy shows that Sterling was well known to Baton Rouge police, although the two officers involved in the shooting — Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II — are not mentioned in documents pertaining to Sterling. "Cook had a handgun and gunfire was exchanged," Gregory said. "Cook was wounded and was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured."

Earlier, Cook approached a home in Cumberland County near the Tennessee border at around 2:40 p.m. local time (3:40 p.m. ET) and asked for a ride, but the couple refused and called police, Gregory said.

Damien Ramirez, Sex Offender, ID'd as Carjacker Gunned Down After Wild Chase

6-11-15 Colorado:

As we've reported, there have been plenty of police shootings in Colorado of late.

Indeed, there was one at 3:20 p.m. yesterday on the 111000 block of Huron Street, when an officer with the Northglenn Police Department shot a man who allegedly had opened fire on cops responding to a report of a "male party with a gun," according to the NPD. The suspect was hospitalized but survived, and no police officers were injured.

But while some of these incidents, including the January death of seventeen-year-old Jessie Hernandez, have been controversial, the gun-down of Damien Ramirez is unlikely to follow suit.

That's because Ramirez is a sex offender who was slain after he carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint, led law enforcement on a wild highway chase and was shooting back at officers when he was killed.
