Burglar shot to death inside Tarrant home identified

3-19-15 Alabama:

Authorities today released the name of a man shot to death last weekend when he broke into a Tarrant home.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the man as Ronnie Anthony Brooks. He was 26.

The shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Springdale Road.

Brooks was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at 10:56 a.m. Sunday, according to the coroner's office.

Tarrant police detective Sgt. Phillip George said the homeowner, who is in his 70s, and his son, who is in his 40s, were home when the man broke in through the back door.

The son woke up and saw Brooks entering his bedroom. He fired several shots.

The burglar fled the home. George said the suspect ran about seven houses away before he collapsed. One of the bullets struck an artery in Brooks' leg. Paramedics had to revive him at least once en route to the hospital.

Tarrant police said they don't expect any charges to be filed in the deadly shooting. Brooks was a transient who had previous criminal convictions for theft of property, criminal trespassing and failure to register as a convicted sex offender, court records show. ..Source.. by Carol Robinson
