Teen charged in convicted sex offender's murder attempts to get bond reduced

11-13-15 Louisiana:

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A teenage murder suspect is expected to be in court Friday for a motions hearing. The attorney for Brittany Monk, 17, of Denham Springs, is trying to get her bond reduced. She is currently housed in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a $400,000 bond.

Monk is one of two suspects charged with second-degree murder in the death of Robert Noce Jr., 47, of Zachary.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Noce was stabbed and strangled. He was found in a plastic 55-gallon drum in his home on July 4. Monk’s boyfriend, Jace Crehan, 21, also of Denham Springs, faces the same charge. They have both pleaded not guilty.

Court records show Noce accepted a plea deal for sex crimes against a juvenile less than two weeks before his death. He pleaded “no contest” (neither admitted to nor denied) to a charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Although Noce was sentenced to 10 years in prison, he was given credit for time served and the remainder of his sentence was suspended by Judge Trudy White. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.

The probable cause report noted the abuse occurred for several years and started when the child was 4 years old.

Court records indicate Monk may have been the victim of the sex crimes, but officials with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office said they cannot comment on that part of the investigation. ..Source.. by WAFB Staff

Detectives look into murdered sex offender's possible connection to suspects

7-10-15 Louisiana:

ZACHARY, LA (WAFB) - Detectives are hoping to uncover more about how the convicted sex offender brutally murdered in Zachary on July 4 knew the alleged suspects.

All was quiet on S. Vernon Road on Thursday, but people who live in the neighborhood are making a lot of noise about the murder of their neighbor,
Robert Noce.

Debbie Ponder, who ran a daycare center down the street, said, a couple of years ago, she babysat Noce's daughter and the girl's older, half-sister, Brittany Monk. Detectives have named Monk as a suspect in Noce's murder.

"I just have a hard time understanding why someone would do this. I just still don't understand it," Ponder said.

Zachary Police Chief David McDavid said Noce's relative walked into the home to discover something terrible had happened. He said it was so bad, his officers had to call in the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.

"When we looked at the scene we backed out and said, 'Hey, look we are going to need some help with this,'" McDavid said.

According to the police report, EBR sheriff's deputies found Noce's body inside a 55-gallon drum in the kitchen. Autopsy results indicated he was stabbed multiple times and strangled to death.

On Wednesday, detectives arrested 17-year-old Brittany Monk and 21-year-old Jace Crehan and charged each with second degree murder. Sheriff's investigators said Crehan confessed to the murder and that Monk was also involved.

The arrest affidavit stated forensic analysts at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab found Monk's DNA on an item detectives believe was used to clean up the crime scene.

In 2012, Noce was indicted on an aggravated rape charge involving a child. The charge was later changed to carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Detectives are not commenting on whether the killing was connected to that sexual abuse conviction or whether that case had ties to either of the current suspects.

Ponder was shocked by the allegations.

"For the four years I kept his girls, I never saw any of that," Ponder said.

Ponder said while she knew Noce was on probation for a sex crime, she is still having a hard time accepting he could do anything to hurt the girls he was caring for.

"I don't believe he deserved to die, especially to be murdered like that," Ponder said.

Young couple arrested in death of Zachary sex offender whose body was found inside drum

Deputies arrested a young Denham Springs couple Wednesday in the slaying of a man whose body was found in a plastic drum at his Zachary residence on Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, who took over the case from the Zachary Police Department, arrested Jace Crehan, 21, and Brittany Monk, 17, on counts of second-degree murder.

Crehan was taken into custody Wednesday and confessed to stabbing and strangling Noce to death in Noce’s home, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, in a news release. Crehan told investigators he put Noce’s body in the plastic drum, Hicks said.

Crehan said that Monk was present during the incident, but Hicks said that detectives did not want to elaborate on the role she played.

Hicks did say that detectives found Monk’s DNA on the drum with Noce’s body.

Robert Noce, 47, of 3021 S. Vernon Road, had begun serving a five-year probation less than two weeks prior for a sex crime involving a child. He was originally indicted in 2013 on a count of aggravated rape involving a child under age 13, a charge that was later changed to carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Hicks said she could not comment on whether the killing was connected to Noce’s conviction in the sex crime involving the child.

“We have to continue to process evidence,” Hicks said. “Once we gather that evidence then we forward all of that to the district attorney to use for prosecution. We are very limited at this time because it is still ongoing.”

Crehan and Monk, who both live at 26384 Wax Road, will be booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison each on a count of second-degree murder, Hicks said.
