9-22-2015 Louisiana:

ST. FRANCISVILLE - The sheriff of West Feliciana Parish said a relative of a registered sex offender shot and killed the man this week.

Sheriff J. Austin Daniel said 30-year-old Anthony Nixon is accused of second-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Brandon Nixon.

Man accused of murdering nephew in St. Francisville

ST. FRANCISVILLE- A man is locked up tonight, accused of murdering his nephew Monday.

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office said a family dispute led to the shooting. It happened on Coates Road, which is off of Highway 61 Monday morning.

Anthony Nixon is accused of unloading a gun on Brandon Nixon.

"It really hit me last night," Ashley Irvine said. "It's really sad."

Family members said Brandon Nixon had turned his life around. Nixon was a convicted sex offender. He was arrested for carnal knowledge of a juvenile about a decade ago.

"Brandon was a good person," Irvine said. "He cared about his family. He just changed...was going to church every Sunday. He was doing good, working two jobs, doing good."

But, people close to the family said Anthony Nixon was making empty threats against his nephew. Investigators said he made good on those threats Monday. Anthony Nixon has a lengthy criminal record. He has been arrested for things like battery and inciting a riot.

"Right now, we don't know a specific motive, but we are investigating," Erin Foster with the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office said. "We do believe this was a family related dispute in some way."

Tonight, Irvine wants to see justice for her loved one.

"We are all heartbroken," Irvine said. "It's just surprising we weren't expecting it."

More details could be released tomorrow on a possible motive. District Attorney Sam D'Aquilla said this case will likely go before a grand jury.

Nixon could face life in prison if convicted of second degree murder.
